9 things in 9 minutes to boost your creativity (10 is too boring…)
So I thought about writing a serious list of 9 things you can do in under 9 minutes each to boost your creativity…but the snark got the better of me. So, here are 9 things, that take less than 9 minutes, to boost your creativity. Some are actually serious, some are crazy, some are hysterical but all work (tested by me, of course!):
1. Turn on a song like “Baby’s got back” by SirMixAlot at full volume and start singing along. See how many people you can get to join you.
2. Write funny one liners (great to find from twitter) on a bunch of post its. Put in random places around your office. Next time you are looking for tape, you might just be surpised with a morsel of funny…If you’re really into being a prankster, put them on OTHER people’s desks….
3. Take this test. You’ll need your speakers on, so if your boss gets mad easily, I would recommend waiting til you get home…
4. I love creative pictures & I love google – so “Guess the Google” is fabulous. Plus, it gets your mind thinking outside the box (which is the point, isn’t it?)
5. Write your husband/wife/significant other/neighbor/boss (hey…you never know) a “I think you’re hot” note. See where the conversation goes. It counts as mental stimulation ![]()
6. Twitter, myspace, facebook, stumbleupon, digg, etc… any combination of the above can easily suck away 10 minutes of your time, but will hopefully give you a bit of creative motivation (or just a break, which can stem creativity on it’s own).
7. YouTube. period. Really? Is it that hard to understand why? My favorite? - totally pointless, overplayed and a little un-PC but hysterical. And it always makes me want to bust out photoshop and play.
8. Stare at the wall. Or the virtual wall at least – http://www.picturesofwalls.com/. It is a lot more creatively motivating than it sounds.
9. Create a custom version of your name in Photoshop (see my twitter background for mine). Put it on every social site you can. Print it out & put it up at your desk. If nothing else, it proves your name can look cool
This is probably the only somewhat serious idea out of all of them, figured I had to have at least one…
And yes, despite these all being a little strange and crazy, just try ONE. I promise, you will fix whatever creative slump you are in – or die laughing. Either way, it’s better than just sitting around trying to focus when it clearly isn’t happening.
