Check your spam – you might find a diamond in the rough.

April 3rd, 2009

pink diamondI love askimet – it is the most impressive spam filter I have found for wordpress. Plus, it has this nifty little feature where if it is not sure that it is spam, it keeps it in a ’spam’ folder rather than immediately deleting it. Most people I know never check it, because they assume it is just spam-that-hasn’t-been-deleted-yet.

My idea: CHECK IT!!! I repeat – CHECK IT.

I check mine about once a week, just to see if anything worth while ended up in there – and I usually find one or two. Today, I was going through my checking and found a comment from Nadia Payan (@nadiapayan on twitter). She had joined in the other de-lurker’s and introduced herself. So, as I did with all my followers that introduced themselves, I wandered to her blog – Little me. Big You. And this is where I found my ‘diamond in the rough’!

A few days ago, she posted about a point of view discussion she had with @lotay on twitter. Rather than ruin the  ‘point’ here, head to her site to check out the impressive conclusion reached in 2 tweets…then come on back…

Read it? Good. What do you think? Do you agree with @Lotay or @nadiapayan? Is there a difference between what they said? And what does it mean in your world?

In my world it means that I need to push the limits, find creativity and show it to the world. It means taking a risk and never letting someone else’s best be mine – mine should always be MY best. Are you your best or someone else’s?

  • First, I never, ever find anything good in my spam box.
Second, I loved that play on words. For me, every sentence can be changed by a few words to make all the differance in the world.
Third, I mentioned your blog on my website today, just thought you would want to know,

  • Not only do I check my Akismet spam frequently, I also check my gmail spam folder a lot, and routinely find not-spam items in both.

  • Yeah, I just always assumed that spam was spam. You know what they say about assuming. I'm going to start checking it from now on!

  • Kirsten,

I'm so glad you checked Askimet! Unfortunately, I'm one of those who never peer into the Askimet abyss because I assume it's just chugging away and doing it's job. Going to have to keep a better eye on it now.

    Thanks for the shout out!
