I heard about the tradition of pig racing on local TV. I'm from Indonesia. Here we have mass pig hunting in some local areas, to compare with yours, hehe.. Thanks!

I think this is excellent marketing! I attended the pig races on Sunday with my family and we got a real kick out of it. I remember getting free bacon several years ago and I think Ralph's was the sponser then as well.

As far as the "childhood nightmare of cute little pigs becoming bacon", we as a society need to remember where our food comes from. We have become so far removed from the food process, people must think that food naturally comes from little boxes that you put in the microwave. I find this consumption of processed crap more appalling than educating your children about where food really comes from.

I used yesterday to educate my 6 year-old son. Every animal we looked at and petted, he understands is also food. While looking at the cows, he learned where his steaks come from. While looking at the pigs he learned where his bacon & ham comes from. And the same went for the chickens.

He'll learn about the process when he is a llittle older. For now, he understands where it comes from and that is a good start.
