I too take a lot of pride in the fact that my writing, for the most part, is conversational. The person who told you "You should never write the way you speak.” is dead wrong. Sort of... what I mean by that is writing is all about your audience. Who is on the other end of the proverbial line. Sometimes you may need to write something that is not so conversational and is more one dimensional, if you will, as opposed to three dimensional. But I can tell you 9 times out of 10, I will write in a very conversational tone until instructed otherwise. Why? Because people say the words in their heads as they are reading the words and people do not say "I am going to the store, I will be back later," They say "I'm going to the store, I'll be back later." See the difference?!Again, great post and one that I can absolutely relate to. .-= Steve O´s last blog ..September 11th =-.

Hey Kirsten, great post as usual.
