Twitter never ceases to amaze me…

It has been an absolutely insane day. Great in every way possible – lunch in Redondo Beach with Simon Salt and Tessa McNabb of IncSlinger, 2 new projects confirmed via email and plans coming together for my workshop in October – but no matter how good it was, there was definitely not enough time in it to get everything done. Twitter, this blog post and most of my phone calls and emails have been ignored until just this moment.

After finally finishing the design for a new site, I decided to take a brief brain break and get writing for my post today. I stopped by tweetdeck first to see if there were any important replies needed, and noticed a tweet from Ed Schipul (the brilliant owner of Schipul Web Marketing that I had the opportunity to meet last year) floating through my stream:

eschipul

I paused. Re-read it, took a deep breath and couldn’t help but smile. While I know Ed meant it to be a frustrated, need-to-have-a-drink type tweet, I couldn’t help but smile.

Know why I was smiling?

Because no one has it easy, even awesome business owners like Ed, have rough days. But what separates him from the ‘average joe’ is the fact that tomorrow, he will keep going for that finish line. Even if again he doesn’t quite make it, he will keep going.

And that is why this tweet, from this person, makes me smile.

OK, yes, it was definitely a “a frustrated, need-to-have-a-drink type tweet” … but the fact that it made you smile has me smiling now. And yes, tilting at windmills is a specialty of mine. I’ll be back at it tomorrow. Can’t help it. It’s my nature.

Hope your day was awesome Kirsten!

Made me smile too. Even tho mine isn’t “work-work” anymore, selling a home and fixing up another creates TONS of tired frustration! Separates the girls from the BIG GIRLS…..

Every year I pick a theme for the business. I take it seriously and research it extensively. I can’t post it yet because I haven’t announced it internally yet. But I can say that last year, 2011, was “Go Big or Go Home.” It damn near killed me.

And the team did it. We crossed the 3M mark for the first time ever with 20% growth while making a profit and taking care of our clients. That’s the good news. The bad news is I lost some of the best people I have ever had the chance to hire and work with. “#tired #frustrated” is an understatement to say the least. I knew turning the throttle up would hurt, but I underestimated the human factor on myself, my family and my team. Despite so many blessings I am feeling the same two hash-tags today, 2012/1/1

In an odd way, your post from 2009 is helping me now, the first day (ok, insomnia, the second day) of 2012. I really appreciate your comments and I’m glad it made you smile. And yes, I am still fighting the good fight and yes I still have days where I want to throw in the towel. It is posts like yours that remind me that I am here to serve my employees and clients. And I plan to keep doing that.

So THANK YOU. Thank you very much for the reminder. And thank you interwebs for leading me back to your blog.

Congrats to the 3M mark Ed, that is phenomenal! But, it’s never easy, is it? I am sorry to hear that you are tired and frustrated, but glad that you found your way back here to leave me a comment.

I hope that 2012 starts strong and continues incredibly!
