Winter sunset in San Clemente

January 1st, 2010

I love photography, but am not a photographer. I don’t have a cool camera, and I don’t really imagine ever getting one. But, I love to take pictures with my phone, and share what I see when I am out. I know that I am not alone in the love of phone photography and want to give others the chance to share their amazing photos as well.

So, I have decided to start Phone Photo Friday – a once-a-week feature dedicated to the best pictures taken by phones and submitted to me (of course, I’ll share a few of my own too!). If you are interested in having your photos featured, you can submit them to me with the form on Phone Photo Friday (or in the future by clicking on the phone in the sidebar). Each week I will choose one to feature, with your name, where/when it was taken, the type of phone, and your creative tagline for the image.

Today’s photo is one of my own, taken on November 2nd, in San Clemente, California with a BB curve:

Submit your own photo and get featured next week!!

  • Very cool idea. Every once in a while I actually get (what I consider) some cool shots with my iPhone. Of course most of my phone shots are of my son and of no interest to anyone else I might end up having a few to contribute.

One suggestion for Phone Photo Friday (PPF) --- Add Use and Re-Use rights. Let people know that they can either use (or not use) the photos that will be posted and under what circumstances they need to provide attribution back to the site, to the author/photographer. My suggestion is to add a disclaimer to the site that might be specific for PPF that let's people use and re-use the pics --- as long as they provide attribution back to your site. I often do this on my blog posts by adding "Image Credit:" at the end of the post.

Love the idea for Phone Photo Friday. I also like your new web site design. Nicely done! Finally, as a native of Southern California and a frequent surfer in San Clemente I particularly like the picture from the South side of the San Clemente pier. It's one of my favorite places to surf. The North side gets most of the action, but the South side has its days. Of course, just a few hundred yards South is T-Street which is where I have spent (mis-spent) countless hours over the last 30+ years communing with nature, catching up with friends, and enjoying the surfing life.
