I read a blog post about really good movies about the revolution. Especially highlights “1776″ released in 1972. http://townhall.com/blog/g/d5ea8ffe-54d3-44ce-a

    Blog author's quote about “1776″
That chapter in history can come alive as part of your Fourth of July nomination thanks to an excellent DVD version of the “director’s cut” of the film, restoring nearly a half hour cut from the old VHS edition. The running time of nearly three hours zips along with unflagging energy, and crisp, brightly colored visual imagery (that earned an Oscar nomination for cinematography). The PG rating reflects some mildly ribald references (the Founders weren’t choir boys and both Jefferson and Adams adored their wives). Nevertheless, the movie makes excellent family viewing – especially for those families that hope to affirm the meaning of Independence Day, beyond picnics and fire works.
