Twitter “Activity” Tab.

Yesterday, I got the new Twitter “activity” tab (click the image to enlarge), which is rolling out across accounts. The tab aggregates favorites, follows, retweets, and what ever else twitter decides, by people you follow. Unfortunately, it is very messy. After watching this tab for about 10 minutes, and seeing what showed up, I don’t see any rhyme or reason (other than time stamp) to...

Your content mix is like a stiff martini…

Read my last 10 tweets. Are they completely random? You may say yes, however, under that randomness is an actual content mix and strategy. While some people feel like social is fun when you wing it, I believe that is not only dangerous, but an extremely silly waste of your brain power. I am not suggesting that everything you send be planned, but the types, how...

The functionalities I *wish* hootsuite had…

A few months ago, I moved all my twitter profiles to Hootsuite. I had used it for years for my clients profiles, but for my personal account & agency account, I stuck with Tweetdeck. I preferred the UI on Tweetdeck, but the analytics, multiple account managers, tabs and support (@Hootsuite_Help is amazing) won me over to Hootsuite permanently across all accounts. But, as much as I...

80 ways to make your social sensational.

TwitterSay thank you to people who retweet your links or share your content. Use proper grammar and spelling as often as possible (shortened words are only okay in rare circumstances). Think before you tweet – it’s okay not  to send a reply to something. Schedule timely tweets like 2nd sharing of a blog post or a link for an event. Use hashtags when appropriate, not in every tweet. Create lists...

Catch me if you can next month!

From November 1st through November 11th, if you need me, you’re gonna have to catch me on the road. Want to try? I’ll catch a late flight out on the 2nd back to LA for the opening night speaker parties at Blogworld,...

Twitter users seriously rock.

There are very few articles I read about twitter anymore that actually surprise me. Many have new and awesome data, which is great, but usually it is data I already expected and just needed proof. However, the Wall Street Journal full on shocked me last weekend. In an article entitled “Decoding our Twitter Chatter”, they unveiled some amazing numbers, facts and realities about the tool...

Oh Facebook, you never cease to amaze me…

**EDIT: If you want the new layout, you can turn it on for yourself now…who knows if it will stay active forever to do this, but it does work. I now have the new profile, although it’s glitchy and not everything works perfect (like the “cover image”)** Well…apparently, my facebook post should have waited just one more day. Yesterday, we had the new version of facebook....

Facebook’s new motto: If it ain’t broke…let’s fix it until it is.

Apparently it’s the time for change…Tuesday, I talked about the new AdAge formula (and what it means for bloggers) and then yesterday we awoke to the newest version of facebook. The most recent shift is all about the profile pages. However, these changes also effect brand pages because of how the users will be interacting with the new layout. Below are the biggest changes (and what...

Is the right hand talking to the left?

I’m a solo business owner, so if my right hand isn’t talking to my left, it’s a really confusing day on the keyboard. And although I have had those days (haven’t we all?) in business, I rarely have them in social media. Why? Because I know my brand inside and out, and I know that everything I send out matches my brand statement or it doesn’t...

What is with the Crockpot Girls?

Once upon a time, 3 moms loved cooking with crockpots. They used them weekly and shared their recipes, stories and drama with each other. They loved caring for their families, but like so many before them, they wanted something more. So they took a picture of themselves with said crockpots (now down to 2 moms based on their last picture), created a community page on...
