Two-word Tuesday #6

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009
In the last few weeks, I have gotten some amazing two word responses to my two words on Tuesday. However, that was not my original plan for these words.
Originally, I hoped that people would take my two words and either create a longer blog post with them, then link back, or to add a comment that does something with them…adds to them. But now, I realize that no matter what I thought it was going to be, once you give something to your readers, it is up to them! So, I am stepping back from what I though this should be, and letting it become whatever it is. Thanks to my amazing readers for showing me what happens when you ‘plan’ and forget who actually executes that plan. Take these words and really, do with them what you will (don’t forget to share, of course)!

The Honest Scrap Award

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

honest_scrap

Honest scrap award? Huh? When Katie Favazza gave me the award, I was a little confused. The name doesn’t really tell you much. But, after tracking links back through over 50 blogs…I finally found an explanation: “This award is bestowed upon a fellow blogger whose blog content or design is, in the giver’s opinion, brilliant.”

So..thanks Katie!!

Now, onto the rules of how it works:

  1. Thank the person who “nominated” you and link back. {Check}

  2. “Nominate” seven more bloggers to spread the happiness.{see list below}
    1. Brad Marley
    2. Suzanne Broughton
    3. Jon Buscall
    4. Parks Design
    5. Kyle Reddoch
    6. Kneale Mann
    7. Angry Julie Monday

  • Tell ten honest (not business related) things about yourself. {and this is the difficult one, but here you go:}
    1. I am absolutely terrified of clowns.
    2. I haven’t been working on my book because I’m worried about what to do once it’s finished, not because I don’t know how to finish it.
    3. I regret giving up soccer in High School.
    4. I am a complete klutz, and my husband continually threatens to bubble wrap me.
    5. I cried at the end of Harry Potter book 6 and 7. All 3 times I have re-read them.
    6. If I had to choose between never touching a computer or never touching a book, I’d give up my computer.
    7. I have a serious issue with anyone who can not pronounce the words “anyway” or “nuclear” correctly.
    8. But I can not pronounce “forward” correctly – it comes out “Fo-ward”.
    9. I am worried I won’t be a good parent because I am a bit selfish.
    10. After trying both, I firmly believe skiing is a a better sport (and more fun) than snowboarding.

    FollowFriday Followup

    Friday, May 8th, 2009

    2 weeks ago (wow, does time go by fast, I thought it was just last week), I wrote about how we can change #followfriday to make it more beneficial for everyone involved. My idea had been to

    only recommend one or two people each followfriday and include a little reason why. Not only does it make it easier for people do decide whether to follow them, but it is more special for those that I recommend.

    Steve Woodruff took a common stand, but had gone a bit further and taken his recommendations off of twitter and to his blog. Last week, he suggested that we answer the question: “Which ONE of your Tweeple would you most want to go on a wine-testing with, & why?” I didn’t participate last week, as I was still testing out my ‘recommend less people with a reason for each’ on twitter. This week, he asked us to share with whom we would like to have an in-depth cultural conversation? This week, I decided to try it his way.

    So, my #followfriday #ff2 (the new hashtag for longer followfriday recommendations) is @knealemann. He and I have conversed through twitter quite a few times, and his blog is one of my favorites to read. Unfortunately, due to the unreliability of email, the first time we tried to take our conversation off twitter, our lines got crossed and he missed a message from me, and thought that I wasn’t interested in continuing our conversation about business and life. The email thing leads me to a whole other story, but we’ll save that for another time. Anyway, Kneale is from Canada, and while not too far from California, the culture is definitely different, and one I have never experienced. I would be interested to see what the difference in business practices are – from email etiquette and office styles to commercials and marketing tactics. I would love to hear how and why he started his blog – what he has learned about it – and if the blogging groups are as prolific there as they are here. In reality, I would just love to chat with him, since after reading his work and his tweets, I think we would have a great conversation. Still not convinced he needs to be added to your twitter followers? He’s also pretty funny!

    Who is your #followfriday #ff2 recommendation?

    How do you choose your twitter followers?

    Thursday, January 8th, 2009

    twitter-Kirsten WrightUsing Twitter shouldn’t be a task – and neither should finding new Twitter followers. While looking through my twitter stream, I noticed @swoodruff & @ikepigott’s posts about their rules for use of twitter. I expected the post to be filled with tips and tricks, but instead were their rules for how they choose who to follow or what followers could expect to find. After reading both, I felt I needed to write one of my own – explain  what I think makes a great follower for me.

    I am a firm believer in you can’t get what you want if you don’t tell anyone what it is. So, hopefully if I tell everyone the types of followers I look for, I’ll get more followers like that (logical, right?).  Everyone has different types of people that they want to be a part of their stream – but here is the criteria for the type of followers I look for (plus 1 of my current followers that fit the category, and I recommend).

    I follow people who…

    • like @MatchesMalone …are local to me (Los Angeles, Orange County, Irvine, Mission Viejo)
    • like @officemate …who have a good sense of humor (especially ones with a bit of sarcasm!)
    • like @Suzbroughton …other marketing/social media/communication/writing people  (who are here to actually communicate, not sell me something).
    • like @ikepigott …people recommended to me by other people I find interesting.
    • like @RachelMotte …fellow Right-wingers (as long as it isn’t just link after link to political stories)
    • like @JDvB …Left-wingers(as long as they know how to talk politics, not argue politics)
    • like @TS_Elliott …people who have replied to me at least once with something beneficial
    • like @paulkinlan …heads of companies I find interesting (companies with tools that benefit me)
    • like @KatieFavazza …people who have a job that I admire or want to know more about (graphic designers, web desginers, journalists)
    • like @mmWine …are Wino’s (because who can’t use a good wine recommendation and the twittertastelive events are fabulous)

    And of course… I am always open to finding a new type of person, so even if you don’t think you ‘fit’ one of these categories, if you find what I talk about interesting and want to join the conversation.. follow me @kirstenwright
